We know that Jesus has overcome the enemy. He has overcome the world. But did you know that we have overcome the enemy as well? I think it is about time that we begin to understand who we are. Because we are from God, we have also overcome the enemy.
I often hear Christians say that the enemy has had his way in their lives. They believe that bad things have happened to them because of the devil's work. While I am not discounting the reality that Satan does interfere with our lives, I firmly believe that we have overcome him. We need to stand in the victory that has already been accomplished by Jesus and appropriate that truth in our everyday living.
Satan has one objective; to kill, steal and destroy. This mission is not limited to any one group of people. Christians and non-Christians alike are subjected to his wrath. As Christians, we have an authority that was given to us by Christ himself to overcome and even defeat the enemy. It does not matter what his schemes are, we can defeat them. In fact, we already have.
How can I be so confident to say that we have already defeated the enemy? It is because Jesus defeated him through the cross and resurrection. There is a single reality that we must understand today: The One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. Jesus lives in us through the presence of his Holy Spirit, and that power is much greater than any power the enemy can muster up against us.
So the next time, the enemy attempts to come against your life, square your shoulders and proclaim the greatness of the one who lives within you. He is greater, so much greater, than anyone or anything that can oppose you. We have overcome!
