Only in America

"But Jesus said to them, 'Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor.' And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith."
Matthew 13:57&58

I love being an American. I am proud of our nation and the things we have stood for over the years. I am proud of our troops who protect us and go beyond the call of duty to protect democracy and keep the peace in lands half a world away. Yet, I believe our nation has a problem. Of course, some of you would say, "we have many problems!" This is true, but I am talking about a God problem.
The verses referenced are taken from a story in which Jesus returned to his hometown. He began to teach and preach, just like he always did everywhere he went. But something was different. Something was wrong. The people there knew him. They saw him grow up and begin to help his father as a carpenter. They knew his brothers and sisters. This promoted a lack of faith that stopped Jesus from doing what he went there to do. He did not heal people or do many miracles.
I am afraid that this same scenario has happened to America. We have watered down Jesus. To many, he is just an historical figure. We have so much religion that we have forgotten the Author of Life. We have so many doctors, lawyers, and policemen, that dependence on God seems ludicrous to many. The doctor can heal us, the lawyer can fight for us, and the policemen can protect us. Where is our faith?
We need to be 'nation-changers.' We need to be people of faith. We need to pray for the sick and distressed, and then expect God to show up. It is a trap, friends, to fall into the same unbelief that a majority of our nation espouses. Be strong, take a stand for Jesus, and be ready to allow him to use you to bring forth healing and miracles. This is our call, this is our responsibility. We are THE CALLED!
